Autism awareness day was celebrated by IAP Pune and Child Development & Guidance Centre of the Dept of Pediatrics, Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College and hospital with an awareness program for parents of young children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder.. The workshop held every year aims to help parents deal with the diagnosis by giving them information about the disorder, equipping them with teaching strategies, discussing evidence based intervention and training them to manage challenging behaviours…
The platform gave parents a chance to interact and voice their concerns about accepting the diagnosis along with making the path ahead clearer.. Around 30 parents attended. A diary designed by the CDGC team was given to each parent to monitor and document the child’s progress on follow up.
Tha faculty for the workshop were Dr Leena Srivastava, Developmental Pediatrician and head of the Child development centre at Bharati Vidyapeeth and Mrs Veena Singh, special educator and ABA therapist.
Posters to create awareness were also displayed for the whole month of April in the corridors and waiting areas of the hospital.

IAP Pune organised CME on Pediatric Cardiology on Sunday 17 February, which was attended by more than 150 delegates. Stalwarts in cardiology Dr Krishna Kumar and Dr K Shivprakash gave excellent guidelines in Ped cardiology. Faculties from Pune included Dr Manglesh Nimbalkar, Dr Usha Pratap, Dr Prabhat Kumar, Dr Santosh Joshi, Dr Pankaj Sugaonkar. Panel discussion moderated by Dr Mangalmoorti Bhalerao, Dr Prashant Udavant was very interactive.
The day also witnessed a memorable program of felicitation of Padmashree Dr Sudam Kate by honourable teacher Dr Mrs Mrudula Phadke madam. Dr Kate has done extensive work in sickle cell anemia in tribal area. Senior teachers and paediatricians were present for this event. On this occasion Dr Phadke madam rekindled her memories of working in tribal areas.
The CME on fluid and electrolytes was conducted on Sunday,13 th January at hotel Aurora Towers. The CME was attended by 180 delegates. Dr Deopujari, Dr mahesh Mohite, Dr Preetha Joshi were faculties outside Pune with our local faculties-Dr Sachin Shah, Dr Madhumati Otive, Dr Latit Rawal, Dr Sagar Lad, Dr Sumant Patil, Dr Manojkumar Patil, Dr Bhakti Sarangi.Speakers enlighted about Fluid management in special situations as well as maintance Fluid. There were interactive sessions.
Masterclass in Pediatric neurology was organised in AFMC.
71 delegates, mostly PG students participated.

The workshop covered details of pediatric neurological examination including Higher functions, Cranial nerves, motor system, cerebellum and sensory system. Case based approach to Cerebral palsy and neuroregression were also covered..along with delegates doing case presentation for these two topics. Feedback received was excellent and delegates felt such classes should be held more frequently.

Pune IAP organised successful PALS course for nurses at Jehangir hospital. 40 nurses completed the course. Faculties were Dr Sanjay Bafna, Dr Gayatri Bhide, Dr Jaypratibha Varshney, Dr Bhakti Sarangi, Dr RK Sanjeev. Course is very useful for nurses, working in pediatric department. We are pleased to tell you that the IAP conducted it’s BLS and ALS training programs at Bharati hospital last weekend on the 29th followed by the 30th and 31st March respectively. Residents from all institutes / hospitals across the city were in attendance with few practising pediatricians and critical care fellows. The course faculty for BLS included Dr Aarti Kinikar ( course director ), Dr Rajesh Kulkarni, Dr Rahul Dawre and Dr Bhakti Sarangi ( course coordinator ). For ALS we had 5 faculty from Pune, including Dr Sanjay Bafna, Dr Sandeep Dhingra, Dr Uday Rajput, Dr Gayatri Bhide and Dr Jaipratibha. The course director was Dr Narendra Nanivadekar while the course coordinator was Dr Bhakti Sarangi. As always, the registrations were full within a week of announcing the course and the course itself was superbly conducted by our outstanding faculty. The IAP BLS – ALS module is a huge favorite amongst residents and practising Pediatricians and this course did complete justice to that sentiment. Everything from the registration process, organization, venue arrangements, the infrastructure, the food were very well appreciated apart from the course itself which was a big hit. This was the first course for health Care providers this year and after already having conducted a BLS and ALS course in January for nurses, the Pune IAP is happy to share that we will be conducting many such courses over the duration of the year for the benefit of our member pediatricians, local residents and the nursing community.
HCJMRI & IAP Pune conducted a one day CME on Pediatric Endocrinology. Dr Senthil Senniapan (Liverpool, UK) spoke on hypoglycemia, Dr Subrata Dey (Kolkata) gave a talk on DSD, Dr Ahila Ayyavoo (Coimbatore) spoke on goitre and Dr Preeti Dabadghaon on PCOD(Lucknow). Dr Vaman Khadilkar gave a talk on obesity, Dr Anuradha Khadilkar on resistant rickets and osteoporosis. Dr Supriya Phanse addressed on growth disorders in toddlerand Dr Rahul Jahangirdar talked on gynecomastia. The CME was attended by 150 delegates from all across the country. Pediatricians were happy to learn and discuss about endocrine issues of childhood.
Pune IAP organised CME on Ped Gastroenterology on Sunday 10 March at hotel Shereton Grand. CME attended by more than 150 delegates. Outside faculties viz Dr John Mathai , Dr Rohan Malik, Dr Vibhor Borkar, Dr Lalit Varma gave lectures on approaches to recurrent vomiting and diarrhoea also insight on probiotics.
Local faculties were Dr Ashish Bawadekar, Dr Vishnu Biradar, Dr Shashank shotriya. Delegates interacted in Panel discussion.
Pediatric Mechanical Ventilation Workshop by College of Pediatric Critical Care- the Academic wing of Pediatric Intensive Care chapter, hosted by Pune IAP And was held at KEM Hospital, Pune. Dr Manoj Patil is Pune IAP, Ped Critical Care Section in Charge, coordinated the team efforts. Faculty were Dr. Vinay Joshi ( Mumbai), Dr. Mahesh Mohite ( Mumbai), Dr. Vikram Hirekerur ( Solapur), Dr Madhumati Otiv ( *National Course Director, KEMH,Pune), Dr. Sanjay Bafna ( Jahangir Hospital), Dr Bhakti Sarangi ( Bharti Hospital), Dr. Sumant Patil ( Deenanath Hospital), Dr. Prashant Rajebhosale ( Aditya Birla Hospital) , Dr Shrinivas Tambe ( Jupiter Hospital,Pune), Dr Sagar Lad( Jahangir Hospital) Dr. Neha Jain(KEMH,Pune). Well attended by 60 delegates till the end including post test. Three prizes were given away at the end for winner and runner ups. All faculty thank our president Dr. Sanjay Mankar, Secretary Dr.Parag Gaikwad and office bearers for this opportunity. We thank the delegates for very attentive, very very interactive, and enthusiastic interest in this mechanical ventilation workshop, which made it worth all the efforts. Looking forward to do it again next year.
Pune IAP organised photography workshop for Pediatricians on Sunday 14 April at Ambrosia resort. 30 Pediatricians participated in workshop. Speakers Mr Dilip Gupta and Mr Vishal chandekar both from Mumbai and Dr Umesh Kalane (Pune) gave insight on photography and hands on training on DSLR camera. All delegates now eligible for advanced training.
